Grades K-5
Suggestions:
Concentrate on a specific standard, or a set number of specific standards.
Include stop and start dates that include a significant proportion of the school year. For example, adjust pacing to reflect standards assessed.
Utilize assessments given throughout the year and administer as the skill is taught.
Utilize multiplication fact fluency or any fact fluency. (Percent achieved)
Use percentage of students not number of students.
Use mathematic assessment rubric with any skill choice (addition, subtraction, multiplication).
Include power standards met from beginning of year. (Use anecdotal notes, rubrics, or tests)
Middle School
Assessment Example:
Baseline Data: Pre-assessment at the start of the school year. Scores will show strength/weaknesses in pre-requisite standards.
Target(s): At least 70% of students will receive a 75% or higher average score on their benchmark assessments. Average scores will be based on data from the first and second quarter benchmark assessments.
Rationale for Target: Target should be based on pre-assessment and students’ prior knowledge of material.
Evidence Source(s): Teachers will develop grade level benchmark assessments that will focus on the essential standards targeted during the given marking period.
Administration: The assessments will be given upon completion of the first and second marking periods.
Scoring: The assessments will be graded using Mastery Connect.
Project Example:
Baseline Data: Pre-assessment at the start of the functions unit. Scores will determine which standards need focus.
Target(s): At least 70% of students will demonstrate 75% accuracy or better on their functions unit portfolio.
Rationale for Target: Target should be based on pre-assessment and students’ prior knowledge of material.
Evidence Source(s): The portfolio will incorporate key concepts from the function unit pre-assessment. The portfolio will include test, quizzes, and projects throughout the unit.
Administration: The portfolio will be collected upon completion of the function unit.
Scoring: The project will be scored based off a rubric created to assess mastery of the standards. Students will have access to the portfolio requirements prior to the completion of the portfolio.
High School
Algebra 2 Example:
Baseline Data: Pre-assessment on quadratic functions. Scores will determine which standards need focus.
Target(s): At least 70% of the students will receive a 75% or higher on the quadratic project.
Rationale for Target: Target(s) should be based on pre-assessment and students’ prior knowledge of material. Students’ previous math class grade can also be used to create a target.
Evidence Source(s): A project created to incorporate all key concepts from the pre-assessment will be used to check for mastery of the common core state standards. This project requires students to integrate their knowledge and understanding of quadratic functions.
Administration: The project will be administered to all students after the quadratic function unit has been completed.
Scoring: The project will be scored based on a rubric created to assess mastery of the standards. Students will have access to the rubric prior to the project being due.
