Editor's Note

Dear Comets,

I’m so excited to welcome the brand new school year with all of you. There’s nothing I enjoy more than to finish my high school journey by helping students express their true self through conversations and ideas that we will exchange in Voices of South. After all, learning who you are and where you fit in is an important part of the high school experience.

Being authentic is something that may come naturally to some people, but for others it is pushed under the surface. This year, you may find yourself under a lot of peer pressure because of your deep desire to ‘fit in’, but always remain true to yourself. Ask yourself: am I participating in these behaviors because I truly want to? or am I afraid of how someone else may view me if I don't? I understand the process of self reflection, self acceptance, and self love can be difficult, but you will thank yourself for learning to love yourself exactly how you are. Spoiler alert: loving yourself unapologetically may cost you some "friends". However, new friends with similar passions, values, and aspirations as you are bound to find you because authenticity is magnetic. Be proud of who you are and who you are destined to become. Comets, this year, I dare you to be brave and break the mold of what everyone else is doing. Take time to establish your core values and remain grounded in them as you navigate through high school. The VOS editorial team and I look forward to seeing, documenting, and sharing the growth each one of you will have this year.
