United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is established to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development in the United Nation Member States countries. UNIDO works together with Global Environment Facility (GEF) to address global environmental issues. UNIDO implements GEF projects by helping governments to develop regulatory, institutional and financial mechanism that promotes a sustainable course in the use of resources and energy.
Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) is pleased to leverage Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) capabilities to provide this pilot project on sustainable city development in Malaysia, under GEF6. There are four scopes under this project, which are the smart grid regulatory framework and policy input, capacity building, smart grid awareness, and smart grid demonstration projects. The first three scopes are awarded to UNITEN by MIGHT, while smart grid demonstration projects is awarded to TNB Research. The second scope, namely Capacity Building, focuses on the development and delivery of several courses and training on smart grid and is expected to produce smart grid subject matter expert (SME) upon completing the whole courses.
To develop relevant courses on smart grid. This include designing the course content and assessment mechanism. The courses shall be verified by the relevant matter experts on the associated fields, to ensure all content are up to the required standard. The training shall include courses on renewable energy integrated smart grid, solar powered electric vehicle charging stations, energy efficiency, renewable energy applications in buildings, data analysis and management on sustainable city development as well as data collection in smart grid system for green house gas calculation.
To identify the relevant individuals to attend the training. This include outlining the basic requirement of the eligible participants, preparing registration form, identifying relevant stakeholders to the program, and vetting through the potential participants before the training starts.
To deliver the training to the relevant stakeholders and produce knowledgeable individuals on smart grid upon completing the whole courses. This include conducting several capacity building (training) events in Melaka and Klang Valley. Participants’ performance shall be assessed using the right mechanism and certificate(s) will be given once a complete training has been conducted.
In line with the project objectives, the outcomes of this project are:
Malaysia smart grid training program, complete with notes, assessment, and certificates. The program and its materials will pioneer and become the benchmark in developing future smart grid training program.
Proficient individuals in Malaysia smart grid system. Participants will be certified if they fulfill the certification requirement. In this context, the certified individuals will have proficiency and experience to help develop smart grid system in Malaysia.
In light of the recent pandemic of novel corona-virus (COVID-19), the Smart Grid Training Program will be carried out entirely online, which will allow participants to take part in the training sessions from their personal computer(s).
The detailed explanation of the assessment and certification for our training program will be provided in the following slides.
