Smart Grid: Elements, Issues and Challenge
This course introduces the element of smart grid. Consists of Introduction to Smart Grid, Solar PV, Energy Storage, Smart Meters application, Control and Operation of Energy and Cyber Security matters related to Smart Grid.
This course is designed to introduce participants to solar thermal energy, from its engineering fundamentals to potential applications including solar heating & cooling and their current potential in Malaysia.
This course will provide in-depth knowledge of the fundamental aspects of solar PV energy conversion, government policies and power system studies. The power systems studies and details of the Large Scale Solar (LSS), Net Metering and Self-consumption schemes will be discussed. Participants will also be introduced to the concept of smart inverters and energy storage that are used in the solar industry worldwide and the importance of high power quality.
This course introduces the key aspects of EV. The course provides an overview on EV types, growth status and related national policies for EV deployment. Relevant standards of EV charging, connector and communication as well as the technical impacts of EV charging to the power grid, and V2G technology will be covered.
This course introduces participants to the building energy simulation program for energy analysis and thermal loading. Energy consumption in a commercial or residential building will be discussed and simulated. This course will also cover the elements of energy management and audit as well as measurement and verification process.
This course is aimed to introduce the concepts of data analytics and its applications in smart grid. The analytics life cycle based on Cross Industry Standard Process for Data Mining will also be introduced. In addition, this course will include few fundamental machine learning algorithms and explain the approaches to develop these algorithms using smart grid datasets. Issues related to cyber security in big data domain will also be discussed.
This course is aimed to introduce the GHG analysis for smart grid applications. It include studies on smart grid related GHG emission, data preparation, emission categories, and stakeholders
This course is aimed to introduce cost, benefit and risk analysis of smart grid investment. In covers smart grid investment, map technologies, map functions, cost and risk identification, CBA calculation and analysis.
