CORINNE DUMMEL, RUTH ASAWA SOTA

My solo, Why can’t I sit still? is about my experiences having ADHD. The feeling of my attention jumping around and hyperactivity causing me to constantly fidget in school inspired my beginning movement. Dancing in the schoolyard setting represents the clash of what goes on inside my brain during a class or throughout a school day. The second part was created with the intention that my mind with ADHD is still my mind, and I would not be who I am without it. The movement progresses faster and more on tempo to characterize my growing acceptance in my relationship with my ADHD. My ADHD is a part of me that causes struggle and distress but makes me who I am.
