Q: Besides volunteer programming, does SFSC have other meetings?
A: While SFSC does not typicaly host regularly scheduled meetings, we typically hold meetings when there are significant updates regarding programming opportunities. Make sure to check your email to stay updated with information from SFSC!
Q: How are volunteering sessions structured?
A: Depending on where you volunteer, sessions can anywhere from one hour to 2.5 hours. After-school programming is typically shorter in length and is primarily based around scrimmage-based play, whereas coaching roles are typically longer and involve anything from running drills and scrimmages to over-seeing competitive games.
Q: Do I need to have experience playing soccer to volunteer?
A: Absolutely not! While soccer experience is recommended, you can still participate in session and help demonstrate the warm-up and cool-down exercises/stretches! If you are unable to help with soccer skills, we can place you in opportunities to help with homework tutoring.
Q: When can I begin volunteering?
A: Before you can participate in any programming, you MUST fill out all of the required clearance forms (which can be found in the "Clearances" section). You will NOT be allowed to participate in any form until your clearances are submitted to the SFSC board.
Once your clearances are in, you are welcome to use this link to choose a session to volunteer in. Depending on how many openings are present and when you complete your paperwork, you may be able to start right away!
Q: I am not able to volunteer during any of the available volunteering sessions. Can I still join the club?
A: While we understand the complexities of college life and the demands of being a full-time student at the University of Pittsburgh, we ask that you do not join the program until you are able to volunteer consistently. We prefer to have consistency with our volunteers in order to have familiar faces for the children in each session, and we therefore ask you be able to only sign up for an opportunity that you can attend every session.
Excused absences for one or two sessions in a programming opportunity are allowed and should be communicated in a timely manner to the SFSC board so that replacements for your slot can be found. With that said, repeated absences may result in removal from the club.
Q: How can I learn more about the club?
A: For specific details about our club, you can read our group's constitution. We also have information about our club on our Instagram and Facebook pages, which can be found in the "Social Media" section of our site. For all other questions, please reach out to the board at pittsfsc@gmail.com, and we will get back to you as soon as possible!
