Student Travel Awards for Joint Statistical Meetings 2026 (Boston, MA)
(Application Deadline: April 12th, 2026)
The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the American Statistical Association (ASA) is pleased to announce the 2026 Student Travel Awards to Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM). The conference will be held in Boston, MA, USA from August 1st to August 6th, 2026 (link). In the last 10 years, more than 30awards have been given to qualified students.
Up to Six awards for current graduate and undergraduate students (receiving degrees May 2026 or later)will be granted to cover expenses of attending JSM 2026, up to $1000. The winners are expected toacknowledge The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter travel support at the end of their presentations at the JSM.
● The award will cover the fee for the conference and short courses at the student registration rate plus documented travel expenses (airfare, transportation, lodging, meals).
Applicants must be:
1. Current members of the ASA (link).
2. Current full-time graduate or undergraduate students in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or a related discipline, graduating May 2026 or later from a university in the greater San Francisco Bayarea.
3. Presenting a paper (oral or poster) at the 2026 JSM as an author.
Applicants should e-mail the following documents to the Chapter President-Elect - Dr. Tao He (sfasa.usa@gmail.com) by April 12th, 2026 (11:59 p.m. Pacific Time):
1. One-page essay describing:
a. ASA membership status at the time of submitting the Student Travel award application.
b. Reasons for attending JSM and for requesting the Student Travel Award.
c. Amount requested (up to $1000) and allocation (e.g., airfare, hotel, registration). d.
Current contact information, including how you can be reached during the summer.
2. An abstract of the paper or poster you are presenting along with the information of the co-authors, thedate and time of your presentation (If available).
3. A letter from your advisor or Department Chair confirming your current graduate or undergraduatestudent status.
Successful applicants are expected to present their work at a meeting of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the ASA in July 2026. Each speaker will give a 20-minute oral presentation.
A committee of the Chapter Presidents (Past, Current, and Elect) and Chapter Treasurer will review the applications and select the winners. Winners will be announced on the chapter website and notified bytelephone or email or both by the end of May 2026.
