Regattas are a great way for Sea Scouts to apply all of the principles and practical skills they learn throughout the year, putting their abilities and sportsmanship to the test. Scouts compete in around 20 different nautical-related events, including sailing, rowing, knot tying, rope climb, and more. We have three regattas in the spring (Seafarers in March, Old Salts in April, and Ancient Mariner Regatta or AMR in May) and Southwestern Rendezvous, which occurs in November over Thanksgiving weekend.
We run a yearly summer camp for 11-15 year-olds who are interested in getting out on the water. Campers get to go sailing, kayaking, canoeing, and learn many on the water skills. Summer camps meet daily at our San Francisco base.Â
Every year, scouts go on a 2-week sailing trip up the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. Scouts put their skills they learn throughout the year to the test and get a chance to bond with their crewmates, while enjoying the outdoors.
Scouts and families from Sea Scout groups all over the Bay Area gather for a weekend of camping, fun on the water, and other scouting activities at Wente Scout Reservation, about 2 hours north of San Francisco.
This one-day event event takes place at the US Coast Guard Base on Yerba Buena Island. Scouts learn all kinds of safety skills, like how to put out fires, safely use flares, use a fire hose, and more!
