Meet the Guest Speakers of the Sexual Violence Awareness Summit

Chanel Miller

Chanel Miller is a writer and artist. Her memoir, Know My Name, was a New York Times bestseller, a New York Times Book Review Notable Book, and a winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, the Ridenhour Book Prize, and the California Book Award. It was also a best book of the year in Time, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, NPR, and People, among others. She was named one of the Forbes 30 Under 30 and a Time Next 100 honoree, and was a Glamour Woman of the Year honoree under her pseudonym Emily Doe. 

Shamus Khan

Shamus is a professor of Sociology and American Studies at Princeton University. He is the author of dozens of books and articles on inequality, American Culture, gender, and elites. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, and many other media outlets. In 2018 he was awarded the Hans L. Kenyora Lenair Parham

Kenyora Parham, MSW, is the CEO of End Rape On Campus (EROC). With a decade of experience, she has collaborated with youth, families, college students, administrators, and leaders such as the late Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley. Before EROC, Kenyora worked in non-profits and higher education institutions like Brandeis University, Strong Women, Strong Girls, and Simmons University. Currently, on the advisory board of Culture of Respect, a NASPA initiative, Kenyora has held roles such as President of the African-American Alumnae/i Association of Simmons University, Vice-Chair of The Institute for Research on Male Supremacism, Advisory Board member of The Every Voice Coalition, and the Alumni Association Board at Boston University’s School of Social Work. She’s a recognized voice on anti-campus sexual violence, featured in major media, and honored by IGNITE National as a "Leader on Fire" in 2021. Kenyora is a 2023 Roddenberry Foundation Fellow. James Wilkerson

James Wilkerson currently serves as the Director of Institutional Equity at Indiana University Southeast, where he teaches in the area of gender studies and sex crimes. He is the author of two best selling books, “The Title IX Guy” and “Consent Is ____: The Things They Didn’t Teach You in Sex Ex.” He also is national speaker on the topics of sexual assault prevention and healthy masculinity practices. 

Jenna Kaufman

Jenna Kaufman is a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor and Somatic Practitioner. She went to her first yoga class in 2008 and got hooked on the practice instantly. Since then, yoga has become a guide to her physical and spiritual self. Her natural inclination toward processing emotion through the body led her to studying somatic psychology in her Master’s program at the University of Memphis. During her graduate studies, she co-chaired a poster titled “Yoga: A Holistic Approach to Mental Health”. She was also the Lead Researcher for a research study titled “The Effect of Yoga on Interoceptive Awareness, Emotion Regulation, Rumination, and Mindfulness” at the University of Memphis. She pursued further education through Somatic Experiencing International and has completed 2.5 years of training through the Advanced I level. Her training has given her advanced knowledge in understanding how mental, emotional, and physical trauma impacts the body and the nervous system. 

Charol Shakeshaft

Dr. Charol Shakeshaft has been studying equity in schools for more than three decades and currently teaches graduate courses in research design, policy research methods, and gender and race equity. The author of four books and more than 200 referred articles and papers — many of which have received national and state awards — Shakeshaft focuses her research on three strands: gender and leadership; sexual abuse of students by adults employed in schools; and the effectiveness of technology for learning, particularly for students of color.
