PRATTVILLE — Defense attorneys want a 40-year prison sentence set aside in a case where a female student was sexually assaulted at Prattville High School.
Ladarius Jamon Starks was sentenced by Circuit Judge Ben Fuller in June to 20 years for sodomy and 20 years for attempted rape, with the sentences to run consecutively. Starks had pleaded guilty in December to sodomy and attempted rape. He had been indicted on those charges along with a kidnapping charge in the wake of the December 2018 attack. The kidnapping charge was dropped as part of the plea negotiations.
Ladarius Starks is a former student at the high school and was 18 at the time of the incident. The defense is asking that the plea agreement be set aside, since the sentence was outside of the agreement, according to court records. At issue is the hand-written word “concurrent” on the plea agreement when it describes the recommended sentence. read more....
