Help when you’re facing CSC charges
Across the country, sexual assault offenses are an increasingly current and hotly debated topic, especially related to campus rape and sexual misconduct in the military. Everyone agrees that sexual assault is a problem that must be addressed strongly and swiftly. However, wrongful criminal sexual conduct (CSC) charges are also equally harmful to the accused.
These types of charges do need to be taken seriously. They come with harsh penalties and an even harsher stigma. Your reputation and relationship with your family can be damaged. A conviction can even hurt your chances of getting a job in the future.
First of all, don’t lose hope. Know that there are defenses to Criminal Sexual Conduct charges. It is possible to BEAT A CSC CHARGE!
In legal terms, a "defense" is something that you, the accused, have a duty to prove by offering testimony and other evidence to better suggest your innocence. There are some limited situations in criminal law where you must prove certain facts in your defense. But excluding those few exceptions, the prosecution has the burden of proving every element of the CSC charge against you beyond a reasonable doubt. If they cannot prove even one essential "element" (a fancy word for "fact") beyond reasonable doubt, then you're entitled to a NOT GUILTY verdict.
Apart from the obvious consequences like fines and jail time, CSC charges and convictions for CSC can have a negative impact on your life in one or more of the following ways:
Loss of financial aid and or student loans
Loss of current job or prevent you from getting a job
Voting rights denied
Lose your right to own or carry a firearm
Disqualification from the military
These type of charges can be delicate, you need someone you can trust, someone with experience, someone who will tell it to you straight and someone who will take the time to make you and your family feel comportable.
