Seeing someone perform an act of kindness can warm your heart. That feeling has a name -- it's called moral elevation, and it's that warm-and-fuzzy-on-the-inside sensation you get when you're in the presence of true human goodness.
The feeling helps to explain why kindness is, quite literally, contagious. Studies have found that this natural high makes people want to behave more altruistically towards others.
Altruism is contagious. Want to live a happier life? Give. Give your time, your effort, your talents to better the lives of other people.
Watch the video first. Observe it, and do your best to highlight each event that happens in the video.
(Example: Boy falls off skateboard, construction worker helps him up and picks up papers for him. Boy then goes to help elderly woman holding groceries cross the street). There, I gave you two :-)
Watch the video a second time. This time, do your best to look in the background to see what else is happening. There's more to this video, and there are contextual factors that lead people to interact in certain ways.
There are a few anecdotes to this one. Please go through this edpuzzle, and then return for the last discussion.
It's now your turn to choose a character in the video. Come up with a backstory of their life. Your job is to describe their (fictional) life before, during, and after the event that happened to them in the video.
The more descriptive you are, the better. Effort is rewarded with this project.
Character development and dialogue (even though there isn't any in this silent video) are crucial components.
Imagery. I should be able to close my eyes and picture your story as it's read.
Paragraph structure. This should be cohesive (easy to read), and at least three paragraphs.
