Ascot station opened on 3 September 1882 as Hendra siding coinciding with the opening of the Pinkenba line. It was later renamed Racecourse and then Ascot. The line was electrified on 6 February 1988. On 27 September 1993 the line was closed as part of a rationalization of the rail network closing unprofitable railway lines and the line was replaced by a bus service. Trains would only travel to Ascot on race days. Regular services returned on 27 January 1998, but only as far as Doomben.
Ascot station has two side platforms however only one is still in use. Platform 1 is used for services travelling in both directions.
Ascot station has two entrances. One is on McGill Avenue and the other is to Eagle Farm Racecourse.
Ascot does have disability access however assistance is required due to the steep ramp.
There are bus stops nearby on Lancaster Road. The connecting bus services are 300 and 301.
Ascot is the only station on the TransLink network that still has the old semaphore signals and the old mechanical points system although they are unused.
