Centrifuging

Centrifuging is a process used to speed up the separation of a suspension. Centrifuging involves rapidly spinning a substance. The force produced by spinning acts on the heavier particles, forcing them to the bottom of the suspension. A suspension that may take take several days to separate by sedimentation can be separated in just a few seconds using a centrifuge.

Centrifuges have several industrial uses. They are used to separate the components of blood donations. Your home even has a centrifuge. It's your washing machine. This appliance spins rapidly to help to dry your clothes at the end of the rinsing cycle.
