Starting in the ninth grade, we provide rigorous academic instruction, quality mentorship, and individualized advising, to ensure that our Scholars are admitted to competitive colleges, and experience a rich and rewarding college education.
When a student joins SEO they must commit to the following:
Weekly, after-school, seminar-style classes and small-group tutoring is a vital component of our program model. Classes are discussion-based and mimic college courses.
A full day of “school” is provided three Saturdays per month during the academic year at either Baruch College or Long Island University (LIU). Experienced Instructors deliver a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum of reading, writing, grammar, and math.
Our five-week Summer Academy features classes Monday through Friday, that bring our Scholars closer to their goals of college graduation and establishes community amongst peers.
Saturday Academy continues throughout the 11th grade, concluding in an SAT strategy course in the spring. Scholars receive tips and tricks to push them ahead of the competition.
Scholars work one-on-one with volunteer mentors throughout the 11th grade. Mentors are college graduates and working professions located in NYC who are looking to make a difference in a young person's life.
Scholars participate in EPs that promote leadership and independence, including travel abroad, experiential programs, college courses, and professional internships, during the summer before 12th grade.
Under the guidance of our dedicated college admissions team, SEO Scholars visit campuses, meet with admissions officers, and receive personalized essay writing assistance. They also get one-on-one counseling and support in applying for scholarships and financial aid so that, regardless of family income level, our Scholars can attend the best school to which they are accepted.
