Many people go fishing at Buckingham Pond, but can't eat the fish that they catch. The reason for this is because that fish is full of pollution. Synthetic lawn fertilizer (specifically a chemical in most called phosphorus), sewer waste, and litter all get dumped into the pond, which infects the water and grows toxic algae, an eyesore and a health issue. We need to do something. Our community is in danger, and we need to act. Yes, synthetic fertilizer makes your grass look nice, and make our pond and our park look like junk. Yes, your "occasional" toss of garbage into our neighborhood's wildlife does add up. So stop all of this. And maybe one day the fish that swim in our pond won't be swimming in poisons.
These images (up/left), taken by SEOBAT member Linnea M. on 5/26/26, are of a gosling at Buckingham Pond with a fishing hook around its neck. This disturbing sight is not as rare as it should be. Fishing at Buckingham Pond is legal, but littering there is not. More people than you might think litter their fishing gear, and it's a noticeable hazard. This garbage can put the pond's whole ecosystem in danger. This poor little gosling got someone's trash stuck in it's neck, leaving a large gash there, and we don't know how injured it really is. This is a large problem already, but when Linnea M. and a few others at the pond tried to contact people to help, but most of them weren't able to help (Animal Control, DEC, North Country Wild Care). Why aren't most of our animal services capable of helping a poor little gosling? And why can't our community clean up after ourselves? Changes need to be made. Right now.
Our business has been ongoing for over a year, but one of our members recently became a Prismarian, and was therefore eligible for Prisma's Made With Love Market. This market allows businesses to advertise their websites to people who particpate in this homeschool. This annual Made With Love Market presents many youth business websites from April 17 to June 22. We are proud to announce that SEOBAT's will be one of them!
