Hello! My name is Linnea, and I am one of the founders of SEOBAT! I love participating in SEOBAT, and I hope we can make a difference in this world. I am inspired by many activists, such as Greta Thunberg and Jamie Margolin, and hope to follow in their footsteps. When I'm not working on SEOBAT, I enjoy crocheting for fun, participating in aerial silks and hammock, and writing.

Hi! I'm Ellie, one of the founders of SEOBAT, and I'm always super excited to volunteer my time to our amazing cause! To me, SEOBAT is my way of protecting our future. We know that our planet is in danger, and I feel better with the fact that I can help. In addition to crocheting, my hobbies include: writing, reading, volunteering at a cat shelter, performing music (whether it be in a musical, playing piano, playing clarinet, or singing), collecting fidgets, and biking.

What We Do
This is a picture of Linnea M. crocheting an amazing plastic bag out of spork wrappers from our school lunch!!!
We collect unusable and damaged plastic bags and use them to crochet different kinds of durable and fashionable bags/purses, stuffies, and lots more. Our business strives to help the environment, and the amount of plastic that gets wasted or thrown into landfills. We donate all sales profits from selling our creations to an environmental charity of our choice, so that we can help others with ideas for the world similar to ours help the Earth, too.

We talked to our school board about the effect that school lunch waste has on all of us.(The board member in red next to Eleanor (Ellie) G. and Linnea M. is holding a plastic fuzzy purse that we made for her to congratulate her on her retirement!)
Fuzzy Purse
Our fuzzy purses are made from spork wrappers from school lunches. This used to be the only thing we made. We started making them because just one look at the huge garbage cans full of lunch waste that our school was disposing of made us want to do something to help. We made these bags to reduce spork wrapper waste, and talked to the school board of education to try and get them to help as well. When we make them, we rip the spork wrappers, tie the pieces together, and crochet the plastic yarn into a purse! It takes lots of time and effort but it's worth it to help the environment!
After helping others learn to crochet on Crochet Day, creating a logo, preparing for our first sale, talking to our school board, and taking lots of our own time to help the world, our business has really taken flight. We've made the difference that we've wanted to make, but we'll need a much bigger difference to save our planet.

One might say we're "just sixth graders", but we've learned that even though our brains might not be as developed as adults, we're making a BIG POSITIVE IMPACT on the Earth, and that's what makes SEOBAT special. We are so much more than JUST sixth graders, we're POWERFUL sixth graders, who ARE making an impact.
