Foreword
July 12, 2013
A pleasant guest arrived. I was all alone at home. Choice of endowing responsibility was my friend’s. She had to travel and she could not trust anyone else but, truly. ‘Nemo’, is the name of the guest*. Still, I cherish her presence and the power of belief. Two weeks with her nature of behaviour was a stimulus for me to investigate the profound understanding of “Love”.
A unique perspective of love of a distinguished sensibility of an artist in me manifested.
“It’s my life. My way.” The vive I used to feel ... She would snap, express groans of displeasure, jerk her shoulder with disapproval, and look into my eyes, straight. No sign of fear, one-on-one! During a food time or a recreational activity. All the same.
Now, during my prayer time in the morning and evening ... And during my sketching time, to my great fortune, Nemo would come out from her cage, the door used to be always left open, walk slowly and settle down next to me. Still.
Still. Me too. And a continuous sensation used to occur on my left knee ... In the initial couple of days. Later, for the rest of her stay it was cool. No fear! For me!
She would get up, look up at me with a contented smile, okay, it used to appear to me like that, and head for her known space as soon as she sensed that the prayers ... the sketching drawing sessions were over. The other time, occasionally though, I would see her in the kitchen while cooking. And, during my food time, she would come and sit next to me. With a calm and caring look.
Two sides of the same coin. But one.
This is the genesis and the search for perspectives of love began. Visually. Determination was to draw one illustration on each Friday, for one year. Depicting love. Pen on paper. No pencil. No, eraser.
There was a will to sow a dot and the line used to dream on its own. First one Friday and an illustration then the second, and the third ... One smile after another and at the end of one year, fifty-two illustrations of love. A big smile and laughter there after.
“Laughter is a sun that drives out winter from the human face.” - Victor Hugo
While at it, several tied memories emerged. Source got revisited. Read over again and again to understand the concept and the thoughts of the characters and their love for life. Fundamentals and basics. The illustrations that follow are concerned with significant anecdotal episodes experienced and with the creative output of the artist in me.
One main purpose is these illustrations to help you think and develop a feeling toward a new yet profound perspective of love. The originals are black-and-white line drawings and suggestive of the will to artistic forms, however, they may not possibly convey the emotional impact the artist in me experienced. Hence, these colour renderings, on view, here.
To get a feel of an artistic experience you might want to watercolour the illustrations, as they are printed on imported wood free paper.
It’s your right to lead a stress-free life! Now, the choice is yours!
Love!

Note
The artist, within, entirely depends on the community while honing the tone, tempo, and intensity from my circumstance defining my will-to-form.
This is my responsibility to acknowledge the expressions of my insight through work of art and wish to arrest the attention of the viewers before transmitting the meaning of my emotions cultivating pleasing forms.
My subjects are from daily life, rendered here realistically and abstractly, resonating love for life, humanity, and the earth; And, reflecting the artist’s personality and sharpening perceptions around peace, repose, and equanimity translating balance, rhythm, and unity. The texture, sensitivity, boldness of charcoal and pencil which are very expressive. My endeavour is to capture the spirit and the essence of my subjects. And, through the reconciliations of rhetoric, pen ‘n’ ink lines with watercolour is instinctively intuitive, where multi-layers are built and various shades are evolved. Though time consuming but heart filling.
This “wholeness of conception” is a direct measure of the artist’s spiritual vision while appreciating ‘unity and harmony’ of formal relations among my “sense perceptions”.
Wishing you all the best of health and happiness ... And, enjoy the show.
CHEERS.
Yo!

“Gouri also makes a conscious effort” as Satya Narayanan R writes, “to affect the next generation through his positive thoughts and artistic expertise. In my own estimation, that is the most visible mark we leave when we are gone. Our impact lasts a wee-bit longer when children of today pick a thing or two and perpetuate the goodness of it in their own lives and in the world around them. I am sure Gouri's mentoring of these children will multiply the goodness in its own infinitesimal way.”
At present, since 2008 November, he has been practicing two visual learning pedagogies with learners:
1 - Learning to see, and 2 - Reflecting your soul.
