Smart Energy Network Design Laboratory
The Smart Energy Network Design (SEND) Lab at Mokpo National University studies how power systems should be planned, operated, and paid for as they move toward a renewable-dominant grid. We combine power system engineering with electricity market and policy analysis, asking not only whether a resource can be connected to the grid, but how much value it creates, for whom, and under which market rules.
Research at a Glance
Power system planning and operation
Grid policy
Electricity market design and analysis
Mathematical optimization
We Are Recruiting
SEND Lab is a new lab, and we are looking for our first members: M.S. students, Ph.D. and integrated M.S.-Ph.D. students, and undergraduate interns.
Backgrounds in electrical engineering, energy engineering, industrial engineering, economics, or computer science are all welcome.
Topics you could work on
Transmission and distribution expansion planning for renewable-dominant systems
Optimal power flow and pricing in AC/DC hybrid networks
Ancillary service and capacity market design, including grid-forming resources
Energy storage sizing, DER aggregation, and corporate renewable procurement
AI data centers and their impact on power system operation
How to Apply
Send your CV and a short note about the topics you are interested in to eojinc@mnu.ac.kr.
Students at Mokpo National University are also welcome to stop by the lab (Room 220, Energy Valley Campus) for a chat before applying.
