The mission of SEMO Secular Community is to develop a community of individuals and families who value and promote knowledge, critical thinking, free-thought, reason and a scientific worldview with ethical standards. SEMO Secular Community aims to empower future scholars and professionals through scholarship opportunities, foster mentorship relationships, and engage in community outreach, all while upholding secular principles and promoting the pursuit of evidence-based knowledge.
SEMO Secular Community opposes the blind acceptance of faith and dogma.
SEMO Secular Community also seeks to have a positive effect on the community, ethical and rational discussions, community service, and educating each other. Often, joint action is needed to achieve these goals.
SEMO Secular Community recognizes the importance of and promotes working in coalition with like-minded people.
SEMO Secular Community will operate in an open, transparent, without discrimination as to gender, race, age, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, nationality, disability, or political affiliation.
SEMO Secular Community will promote the constitutional principle of separation of state and church, and to educate the public on matters relating to nontheism. SEMO Secular Community hopes to help improve public policy for all Americans, protect real religious freedom by defending the wall of separation between religion and government, and promote the acceptance and understanding of the secular community.
SEMO Secular Community seeks to interpret a life based on principles derived solely from the material world, without recourse to religion. Guided by the principles of secular humanism, our mission is to unite the secular community in volunteer and charitable efforts and advocate for compassionate action throughout the world.
