SEMAPLE/EPIC/LAALTA Conference
September 11-13, 2025
State University of Londrina, Londrina, Paraná, Brazil
Integrating the learning, assessment and teaching of languages:
Towards pedagogies of transformation
CALL FOR PAPERS
The SEMAPLE/EPIC/LAALTA conference is a unique event formed by the collaboration between:
the VI SEMAPLE (Seminar on Assessment of Proficiency in Foreign Languages);
the VII EPIC (Meeting of English Teachers for Children) & VI Seminar on Assessment of Foreign Languages for Children; and
the V LAALTA Conference (Latin American Association for Language Testing and Assessment).
This collaborative conference considers the integration of language learning, assessment and teaching as a foundation for good pedagogical practice. This agenda is expanding in view of the emancipatory and transformative role of language. Recent discussions in Applied Linguistics address critical issues such as inclusion, social justice, translanguaging, and the role of technologies and AI in various contexts, including early childhood education, high schools, universities, and language institutes. At the SEMAPLE/EPIC/LAALTA collaborative conference, we will come together to talk about how in the integration of learning, assessment and teaching, these new views, issues, and practices play important, principled roles. Thus, we open a call for papers involving the following topics:
Development and implementation of large-scale and classroom tests and their relationship to language learning and teaching;
Development and application of assessment instruments and rubrics that incorporate learning and teaching across different age groups, contexts and purposes;
Language teacher education and how it focuses on the learning, assessment and/or teaching of languages;
Impact of language policies in language learning, assessment and/or teaching;
Integration and impact of technologies in language learning, assessment and/or teaching;
Justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in language learning, assessment and/or teaching;
Language assessment literacy for different stakeholders and how it incorporates language learning, assessment and/or teaching;
New theoretical and practical perspectives on language learning, assessment and/or teaching, including decoloniality, bi/multi/plurilingualism, translanguaging, gamification, etc.;
Synergies and tensions in language learning, assessment and/or teaching as they relate to different age groups, contexts and purposes.
