The Selyrian Crimson Militia is known by most as The Faction of Democracy. Their ideals, customs, and practices revolve around the idea of valuing the people over any authority. Their Liberal ideas make them a prime target for loyalists and Conservatives for the Royal Family, but through the years, this faction has only grown in size and in strength, and even trust in the royal family.
It is important to note that this faction did not immediately turn the way it is. This document shall discuss the origins of the Selyrian Crimson Militia, and how its values and military system was formed throughout the years. As the founder of this militia, I shall do my best to provide an objective, rational, and fair recollection about this militia, to make a proper archive to add in the Sovereign University of Vendeaux.
If some sections of this research paper are blocked by The Black Valkyrie Regiment, it is important to note that this would be my choice, as I do not wish to leak some of the information to the public. Thank you for understanding.
The origins of the Selyrian Crimson Militia's ideas date back to Porthosian Culture and Politics where Democracy is the main system of governance. From my research, it states that the idea of Democracy originated from the Porthosian Natives, who had small communities made up of 100 members. It is believed that during this time, the natives organized themselves in a majority vote for whenever there is a decision to be made. A ‘Ceritolau’ would be in charge of organizing, and counting the votes. The Ceritolau would also be in charge of asking what things are to be voted on. This process evolved into what was known as The Consul we know today.
In the current society of Porthos, there is a royal family in the coastal areas of Porthos. They have rights to large plots of land, and they do not pay taxes. They are the remnants of what was left of The Porthosian Empire, which dominated the lands of Selyria during the end times of The Centurion War, around 1000 BFS. But on the higher parts of Porthos, it is controlled by a Democratic Government headed by The Consul. This system of governance is known as a Constitutional Republic.
I was lucky enough to study in their Philosophical Academy, where I learned the works of Pacificus, and his ideas of Peace, and the value of Democracy. To say that I was influenced by this would be an understatement. Everyone in Porthos regarded Pacificus as the father of Porthosian Democracy. As a matter of fact, the name ‘Pacificus’ is not even his real name. Leo Cornelius was dubbed the title ‘Pacificus’ for his wondrous work on how Democracy can be fought using peace and not war. This was a stark contrast to the Vonturian idea of a Republic being won using wars and revolution.
During the time of The Great Orc War, I was then sent on a journey to protect Porthos from an orcish attack. I was accompanied by my lover at the time named Calypso in fighting the orcs throughout the borders of Porthos and Sicarius. We ended up freeing The West Arkasios Trading Company. After learning that the orcs were headed to the north all along, I decided to quit the Porthosian Army to head towards Ravena and defend the kingdom I once called home. After convincing the Ravenian Royal Family that my help needed to be done, I was given command of a Division in The Royal Army named ‘The Civil Division’, which was, by its name, a division of the Royal Army full of untrained militia men who were former peasants. The first person that came to my aid was a former ally named

- or what he’s more commonly known as, ‘Gold’. This division was full of untrained peasants that mainly wished to get themselves fed, and wished for peace. Some only wanted to go back to their daily lives, but some only wished to protect and feed their families. Because of this, I had the idea of keeping the looted items from the orcs and giving them to the families of the soldiers of the mission. This started the tactic of assaulting Orc Camps and giving the loot to the poor. It was at this point where the men and women of the division developed a sense of camaraderie between each other, which would spark with the reason why they call each other ‘comrade’.
By the height of the war, I commanded the division to help Vontur defend against The Sicarians. This was a risky decision, as it was nothing but controversial for an army of The Monarchy to defend a Republic. In the end, we successfully held off the attack, making Sicarius shift their enemy to focus on Ravena. Also during this time was the time where The Civil Division learned about the values of a Democratic Institution. Me and my men then held a pact that we would make sure that once this war was done, we would do our best to fight for Democracy and peace. This would be known as the start of which The Democratic Code was formed. In that code, we vowed to fight for all people, may that be Ravenians, or Vonturians, as everyone living there had all the same struggles. This evolved into fighting for every sentient’s right to liberty and Democracy, which would pave the way for the new identity of The Division. After that, we renamed ourselves The Red Blood Regiment due to our adherence to fighting for the people, no matter who they were, as everyone’s blood was red. We returned soon after to finish off the last attack.
When it was over, there was conflict over The Red Blood Regiment’s new ideals after the defeat of the Sicarians. We were given notice that the funds for this new regiment would be cut off. Because of this, some of the people in the Red Blood Regiment demanded for a Revolution. The peasants of Ravena also wanted me to be the new king. Due to the tension rising with the peasantry, I decided to head to the castle to ask for a compromise where our funds would be given back. I reasoned that the peasants would revolt if The Red Blood Regiment would not be helped. In the end, they accepted, in exchange for the deal that we would not revolt against the monarchy unless evidence of treachery was presented.
I only gave them a warning that as long as they treated the people well, then we would treat them well.
As for the regiment, I sent them a letter telling them that we would not revolt.
And as for the peasants, I gave them a speech about our true cause. The Straznicy (which would be known as The Golden Eagle Guard later) and The Black Valkyrie Regiment was also there, ready to quell the rebellion. I decided that the only way for me to stop them was for me to speak, and to take action.
Following below is a transcript of the speech I did to calm down the revolutionists who wanted violence to make me king. My apologies for its damages, as it somehow was not burned when The Clan of Aeryth sieged The Castle of Ravena in 1581.
The Red Split is known as the time of which the revolutionaries in the Red Blood Regiment decided to split away from the regiment to create their own faction known as The People’s Liberation Front. This radical group believed that everyone should receive everything for free, and that the upper class must not exist. They also believed that violently overthrowing the monarchy was needed to ensure a better society.
Compared to the Red Blood Regiment’s idea of Democracy, they believed in the Dictatorship of the Proletariat, or the idea of which the peasants themselves are the ones that should have total control over everything in society, compared to Democracy’s idea of an elected leadership. To them, this was called Communism. Because of this, The Red Blood Regiment made reforms to ensure that the regiment's democratic ideas came from the foundation of another idea called ‘Liberalism’, which originated from the USFP Philosopher Bernadette Allaire. This would be crucial in making sure that Democracy in the context of the Red Blood Regiment was founded not in the force of power and violence, but in the form of peace, diversity, cooperation, and Internationalism that strives to reform society without being radical in terms of actions.
Currently, the People’s Liberation Front is unknown on its whereabouts. However, their actions are reported from time to time, killing nobles, mages, and even merchant peasants, stealing from them to give to the people. The Red Blood Regiment draws a line in killing anyone innocent, and only kills nobles who are corrupt, and have attacked the innocent. War is always a last resort for us.
After the Red Split, The Red Blood Regiment soon grew rapidly. This is due to its members being recruited from other nations when it did its campaigns, giving them a stable wage, and a chance to live inside their camps, that became towns.
After the north and south divide of Ravena, Kai Ellington, along with the RBR's Former Consul Zanloleth Extervus, created the reforms of turning the RBR into a fully equipped militia.
Currently, the Selyrian Crimson Militia follows a newly updated Democratic Code:
