sel resources for families
Tools and tips to help families foster social-emotional skills at home.
relationship skills:
it is so important for children to build relationships both inside and outside of the classroom. while children are engaging with one another in the classrooms every day, it is important that they gain social skills outside of the classroom as well. we encourage you to help build these relationship skills by engaging in interactive play. some ways to do this are:
turn taking through games
encouraging sharing with others
decision making skills
when students learn decision making skills, they learn important tools that will help them throughout their life. habit 1, be proactive, helps students learn to make decisions. we encourage you to help build decision making skills by:
giving choice and allowing for a decision to be made
reflecting on choices that were made and finding meaning in making mistakes.
self-awareness
when students learn self-awareness skills, they are encouraged to not only learn about themself, but to also express themself better. in school, students utilize mood meters and feelings vocabulary to help label and express their emotions. we encourage you to help build these skills by:
asking "how are you feeling" and encouraging the child to explain why.
allow the child to highlight their strengths and identify what they can improve
summer resources for families
As the school year comes to an end, we know how important it is to keep students busy and active during the summer months. It can be challenging to find affordable ways to occupy them and off the electronics. If you are able to find a program that works for your family schedule, summer can be a great time for them to meet new friends, learn new skills and have fun! Please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Henry or Ms. Flanigan with any questions or if you need any assistance with enrollment.
