Being a trailblazer in incorporating Social Emotional Learning into the national curriculum, Singapore has adopted the Framework, introduced by the Ministry of Education in 2005, further developing the Framework for 21st Century Competencies and Student Outcomes (Liem et al., 2017). The framework integrates five domains of competencies for students to develop: civic literacy, global awareness, and cross-cultural skills; critical and inventive thinking; communication, collaboration, and information skills; self-awareness and self-management; and social awareness and relationship management. Aside from this, Singapore adopted multiple initiatives to support SEL in schools including SEL Curriculum and Character and Citizenship Education (CCE).
SEL programs vary across states, districts, and schools in the United States. Several popular and mature programs of SEL include Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the National Commission on Social, Emotional, and Academic Development, and Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL's).
