I have been asked Why?
Some people run for office because they’ve always wanted a title. I decided to run because I got tired of watching my district go unrepresented and unheard, and I decided that if no one else was going to speak up, it was going to be me.
Our District deserves better. Senate District 29 spans seven counties: El Paso, Hudspeth, Culberson, Pecos, Presidio, Jeff Davis, and (part of) Brewster. Seven counties with hundreds of miles, and thousands of Republican activists, precinct chairs, and everyday conservatives who are doing the real work of building this party from the ground up.
And yet, some of those county activists have never seen, never met, and cannot even name their current SREC committee members for SD 29.
Let that sink in.
The SREC committeeman and committeewoman are supposed to be the face of the district at the state level for the Republican Party of Texas. If your own constituents don’t know who you are, or worse, don’t like the way you represent them, that says everything. The grassroots are the foundation of this party, and right now, they feel invisible. That is not acceptable. That is why I am running.
I chose this land, it is my home. I didn’t end up in West Texas by accident. I made a deliberate choice to leave urban Texas behind, to trade the noise and pace of city life for something more meaningful. I came here to live off the land, to build something sustainable for my family, and to put down roots in a place where your word still means something, and your neighbors still look out for each other.
I live in a border county. I live in a rural area. I know firsthand what it feels like when decisions come down the pipeline from Austin, or Washington that make no sense for the people actually living out here, and there is no voice at the table saying, “Wait. Stop. This isn’t right for us.” I am not running to cast a vote and go home. I am running to be present in the district, with the grassroots, making a difference on the ground, not just on paper.
This community is my home. My family is here. My business is here. My future is here. When I fight for District 29, I am fighting for myself just as much as I am fighting for you.
We must remember that accountability starts at home. We are the party of smaller government, personal responsibility, and the will of the people. But somewhere along the way, our own party structure started operating like the very thing we campaign against, such as decisions made from the top down, with little transparency, little accountability, and little regard for the grassroots activists who keep this machine running.
You cannot preach limited government on the campaign trail, and then run your party like a top-down bureaucracy. That is a contradiction I refuse to accept. True conservative leadership means being accountable to the people you serve, not the other way around. The grassroots should be driving this organization, not reacting to it.
There is a warning that we cannot ignore! Texas is changing. The margins are shrinking. The purple is creeping in, and it is not because conservatives are losing the argument. It is because we are losing our unity. We are so busy fighting each other that we are forgetting to fight for the values that brought us all to this party in the first place.
I am not running for the Republican Party as an institution. I am running for the Republicans within the party; the precinct chairs, the county activists, the volunteers who stuff envelopes, knock doors, and show up on Election Day, because they still believe in something. Those are my people. That is who I answer to.
We need to get back on the elephant. We need to remember who we are, unify around what we believe, and start winning elections again, not just talking about it.
The Bottom Line is that I am running because this district deserves a Statesman, not a placeholder. Someone who shows up, speaks up, and stands firm for the border communities, for the rural counties, and for the grassroots activists who have been doing the work without recognition, or representation for far too long.
