SOFTWARE ENGINEERING EDUCATION WORKSHOP

In Conjunction with APSEC 2020

Singapore [Virtual]

Third Software Engineering Education Workshop (SEED 2020):

Teaching Software Engineering in the New Normal

In conjunction with Asia Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC 2020)

About the workshop

Software engineering curriculum and teaching methods worldwide have evolved in recent years to accommodate rapid changes in the technology landscape involving Cognitive computing, Machine Learning, Blockchain, Augmented Reality, IoT, Cloud Computing and Robotics.

The emergence of COVID-19 has further challenged nearly every software engineering(SE) educator to quickly shift to a fully online teaching environment, leaving most with little time to prepare. Things are not going back to the way they were. With the pandemic still impacting universities around the world, there remains a great deal of uncertainty about what ‘teaching and learning SE’ will look like in the coming academic year and beyond.

This workshop aims to bring together experienced online educators as well as those faced with the need for online teaching for the first time, to a common conversation about adapting their SE courses to fully online or hybrid formats. The project based learning online or hybrid strategies that can be adapted to handle industry projects are also targeted in this workshop. One of the goals of the sessions is to build resource pages and collect research data for SE educators to equip them better for the new normal. We aim for participants to talk about and share their experiences on redesigning syllabi, teaching techniques, assignment, assessment, active learning online activities, etc. with case studies or empirical data on effectiveness of these experiences to be posted online. The workshop goal is to build a repository of SE teaching resources and materials. All contributors will retain copyrights of their materials. Proper credits will be part of each resource posted.

The workshop will be open to all participants of APSEC 2020.
