While there is a multitude of software options that allow for distant connections to be made to electronics to enable management features, Chrome Remote Desktop is one of the best options as the developers are Google. Ensure the security of data and safety of location information with this title rather than a riskier one. Control the screen of a remote desktop with a separate computer, phone, or tablet to retrieve files, edit content, begin downloads, etc.

Trying to deploy CRD on laptops using the Chrome Remote Desktop Host.pkg and I've also made a dmg with composer with no luck. The policies arent failing but the users are still having to manually install when going to remotedesktop.chrome.com

Request for solution, I am having the exact same thing occur. I have used PPPC utility to install the permissions and also created a DMG using the .pkg installer provided by Chrome. But when I run the policy it installs "fine" and then navigate to remotedesktop.chrome.com the user has to install it like JAMF never did anything.

I found the following post (How can I "Turn On" Chrome remote desktop in Ubuntu 20.04?), and did what it suggests, creating a directory under ~/.config/chrome-remote-desktop. But this time it didn't solve the problem. I checked the program status by systemctl, and it says active.

It seems user interface of the chrome remote desktop is updated since this post. I believe it is another bug on Chrome Remote Desktop installer (with new user interface). Any suggestion of alternative option is appreciated. E.g., a method of configuring host and pin # by hand without going through the installer, etc.

Its a bug for the chrome remote desktop installer not creating its own config folder. So simply create it via mkdir ~/.config/chrome-remote-desktop, refresh your chrome, and the "turn on" section will show up.

I tried to install the google remote desktop on the jetson nano and xavier. Was someone successful with this? I can control my Win10 machine with the nano, but cant install/download the packages.

The chrome-remote-desktop application works just fine with linux generally and Ubuntu specifically. It however does NOT play nice with LightDM and Unity. Ubuntu Bug #1274013, and the related bug in comment #3 shed some light on this: gnome-session is broken without 3d acceleration.

I've only ever used it for that use case - to connect to OSX / Windows boxes from my Ubuntu work laptop. In those instances, the viewer is just accessed by installing via the chrome extension located here: -remote-desktop/gbchcmhmhahfdphkhkmpfmihenigjmpp?hl=en

EDIT: Since the remote-desktop host feature is currently in beta, it's not accessible in the chrome-stable installation, which is why I've not seen it listed and there is no option to enable remote connections in the stable installation, as far as I can tell.

Create a file called .chrome-remote-desktop-session in your home directory. This should be a shell script that starts your preferred desktop environment. Find the correct command to start the desktop by looking in /usr/share/xsessions/ for the desktop entry.

@Clarity - I have used C-R-D with ScPup64-20.06. I used a .pet I made a year ago & the browser plugin to connect then.

Old .pet no longer works. (Chrome = constant change). I've made a new .pet including parts of the current .deb.

Connects via ScPup64-21.04, but as for security etc - I don't know. On both PCs, need to install .pet, then open latest chrome & install c-r-d plugin, run it & go to remotedesktop.google.com/support. USE AT OWN RISK.

Hey guys, I am experiencing an issue with chrome remote desktop, installed from the chrome-remote-desktop package in the AUR. I installed the software, configured it as described after the install, and enabled remote connections through the remote desktop application for chrome. Now, whenever I try and connect through the remote desktop client, my computer is listed correctly and asks for a pin when connecting, but when I actually connect I receive a black screen with a message at the top. The message says "Unable to start d-bus, can you call qdbus?".

If you want to be able to access your own computer from another desktop or mobile device, start by opening up Chrome on the host computer (or downloading and installing Chrome, if you're using a Windows, Mac, or Linux system that somehow doesn't already have it). Within Chrome, navigate to Google's Chrome Remote Desktop web app and click the circular blue arrow icon inside the box labeled "Set up remote access." (If you see a blue button labeled "Turn On" instead of a blue arrow, congratulations: You're one step ahead! Skip the next paragraph, and you'll be back on track.)

If you ever want to disable remote connections, just go back to remotedesktop.google.com/access or click the Chrome Remote Desktop icon to the right of your browser's address bar. You can then click the trash can icon alongside your computer's name to remove it from the app. Alternatively, you can simply uninstall the app altogether by right-clicking its icon and selecting "Remove from Chrome."

Once you have the access code and are ready to connect, simply go to remotedesktop.google.com/support within Chrome on any other computer. Enter the access code in the "Give Support" box and then click the "Connect" button to begin.

Chrome Remote Desktop is fully cross-platform. Provide remote assistance to Windows, Mac and Linux users, or access your Windows (XP and above) and Mac (OS X 10.6 and above) desktops at any time, all from the Chrome browser on virtually any device, including Chromebooks.

Issue 6: Chrome Remote Desktop failed to start remote access service

Solution: Make sure that you already have your remote desktop app installed. If your devices still fail to connect, try rebooting your computer and then launch the remote desktop app again. When the remote access service successfully starts, check your remote device for connectivity.

If you failed to start remote access service, this might be because of your internet connection. Check the status of your network. If it is unstable, this may be the reason why your chrome remote desktop is failing to launch. To check if your network connection is working fine, you can try reestablishing a connection with your remote device.

With Microsoft Remote Desktop clients, you can connect to Remote Desktop Services from Windows Server and remote PCs, and use and control desktops and apps that your admin has made available to you. There are clients available for many different types of devices on different platforms and form factors, such as desktops and laptops, tablets, smartphones, and through a web browser. Using your web browser on desktops and laptops, you can connect without having to download and install any software.

@truncs I was able to successfully start chrome-remote-desktop@user.service after I modified xorg_binary (line 1447). Arch installs Xorg in /usr/lib/Xorg whereas debian installs it in /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg.

Looks like the latest version is 116.0.5845.9 according to the packages file: -remote-desktop/deb/dists/stable/main/binary-amd64/PackagesI was able to install by manually editing the PKGBUILD but would be great if this were updated in AUR.

The Linux version of chrome remote desktop (henceforth, CRD) doesn'tallow clients to connect and control an existing X session; rather, there is a dedicated X session specific to CRD. This is similar to theclassic vncserver mechanic. When you connect, a session is started ifone is not already running. If it is running, you are connected to thein-progress session.

I'm trying to set up Chrome Remote Desktop on Elementary. I downloaded the chrome remote desktop .deb package from their website, installed it through Eddy, but I can't launch that app and complete the setup as it doesn't appear anywhere. What am I missing?

I had this same problem and I fixed it by just manually creating a ~/.chrome-remote-desktop-sessions config file with my default gnome session preferences in there (See step 3 of google's support page here: =GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en)

If you've never tried this, it may sound odd -- but it works quite well. The Windows PC runs a remote-connectivity app that stays active while you're away; the Chromebook connects to that app and accesses the remote Windows desktop inside your browser, where you can run programs, update settings or whatever. For all intents and purposes, it's like you're sitting in front of your Windows machine -- while you're in front of your Chromebook.

What are the correct instructions to install Google's remote desktop? I've installed the package from here, but when I got in Google Remote dekstop to set up my machine to be accessible remotely I get the following error.

Chrome Remote Desktop has been around for quite a while, but now Google offers a .deb installer with native Linux support via Systemd. This is great because it removes the need to setup VPNs and VNC to remote connect to your machines, or in the case that you need to land a hand to a not so technical savvy family member or friend.

Recently, We want to block all remote administration applications like chrome remote desktop. We enabled the application control blade in existing 4210 R77.30 and block all remote administration applications. But it seem not work.

Chrome Remote Desktop is a remote desktop software tool, developed by Google, that allows a user to remotely control another computer's desktop through a proprietary protocol also developed by Google, internally called Chromoting.[2][3] The protocol transmits the keyboard and mouse events from the client to the server, relaying the graphical screen updates back in the other direction over a computer network. This feature, therefore, consists of a server component for the host computer, and a client component on the computer accessing the remote server. Chrome Remote Desktop uses a unique protocol, as opposed to using the common Remote Desktop Protocol (developed by Microsoft[4]). ff782bc1db
