CSIC Tenured Scientist at CRAG
PhD in Population Genetics at University of Barcelona (UB, Barcelona, Spain). 1998
I am deeply interested in understanding the causes of evolutionary processes, particularly the importance of the forces involved in adaptation to environmental changes and how they operate. I enjoy developing diverse approaches and methods to infer the evolutionary processes that have occurred in populations. Simulation studies are my primary approach to understand the behaviour of the evolutionary forces under complex conditions.
I am recently focusing on the study of the evolution of polyploidy and mating system as a mechanism of adaptation to rapid environmental changes. In collaboration with Dr. M. Abdelaziz (University of Granada), I will be participating in an ambitious project aimed at understanding the evolution of the Erysimum incanum complex species across different geographic scales, using both wild and greenhouse studies, along with various -omic methodologies.
Diego has just started his thesis with the title “Análisis transcriptómico de la lactación y cartografiado fino de polimorfismos con efectos causales sobre fenotipos lecheros y de viabilidad en la raza Murciano-Granadina”.
This thesis is part of a collaboration between three PI from CRAG (Marcel Amills, Alex Clop and Sebastian Ramos-Onsins).
Diego will integrate selection fingerprint data in pigs and goats with multitissue transcriptomic data in order to identify genes under selection and that present tissue-specific expression patterns, so that it is possible to identify which anatomical organs have been affected by the selective process associated with domestication. Diego is based in Barcelona.
