Bioinformatics is a research area where computer science, information technologies and statistical methods are applied to the processing of biological data. Post-genomic technologies are producing huge amounts of biological data, and bioinformatics the key science in the task to make sense of them. The current challenge of the bioscientist is to be able to easily handle all this information. Bioinformatics is a strategic science, which enjoys both short and long term projections, and whose importance can hardly be overestimated. In bioinformatics, the two main drivers of scientific and technological change of the last half century comes together: molecular biology and computer science. We are within an interdisciplinary activity, where both sciences mutually amplify the potential of new knowledge and technology transfer.

Los modelos ganaderos futuros deben fundamentarse en la sostenibilidad, en el marco de sistemas de producción competitivos y respetuosos con el bienestar de los animales.
La mejora genética animal no sólo contribuye a la sostenibilidad de las producciones e incrementa su rentabilidad, sino que permite a través de las nuevas tecnologías mejorar su eficiencia y adaptarlas a la demanda divergente de los consumidores. Así, la genética de poblaciones y cuantitativa, la genética molecular y la biotecnología reproductiva son actualmente materias básicas en el desarrollo de la ganadería. La genética de poblaciones ha sido responsable de los principales avances de las razas y poblaciones animales utilizadas en la producción, y la genética molecular, de más reciente desarrollo, está contribuyendo de forma creciente a la mejora. Finalmente, la biotecnología de la reproducción ofrece herramientas que potencian y facilitan la aplicación de los métodos de mejora tanto cuantitativos como moleculares.

Collaboration with Campus 42 and the INS Bernat El Ferrer and INS La Ferreira to introduce to scientific questions in Agricultural Genomics and provide example datasets for data analyses (2024).
Previous collaborations with Primary Schools to introduce Scientific Concepts and Evolution: "Tots som científics!" (Catalan) Class for kids 7-8 years old at CEIP Prat de la Riba, Esplugues de Llobregat and CEIP Ignasi Iglesias, Barcelona.
