Farewell Ceremony with SMP Muhammadiyah 1, Purwokerto
I don’t know what to say because actually I feel like it’s too early for farewell.
It’s ironic that I left my family in the Philippines with a calm heart for this student exchange program, but I left Indonesia with teary eyes. Not because I had bad experiences there but because I had great experiences with great people.
May 17, 2023 when we first entered SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto. We are still tired that time from our 34 hours of travel from Philippines to be here but everything feels so comforting the moment I entered that school. I can see goodness in the faces of the teachers, faculty and students. Each day spent there is such a blessing for me. I am always excited whenever our tasks are with SMP Muhammadiyah 1. Everyone of you gave meaning to my student exchange experience.
My heart is full of love and gratitude. I am so much thankful to experience being with mazing people of Indonesia specifically with you here in SMP 1. Goodbye always makes my throat hurt. If only I have a time machine, I would always go back in my time there with them; or if teleportation is possible, I will always visit there. But we all know that life doesn’t work that way so may the road rise up to meet them, may the wind be ever at their back. May the sun shine warm upon their face and the rain fall softly on their fields. And until we meet again, may God hold them in the hollow of his hand.
I guess that was Goodbye. Until we meet again. Indonesia will always have its place in our hearts.
This is Jsah Myrl Humpay, your Southeast Asia Teacher, now signing off.
