1.1 School Profile
SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto is an environment friendly school which was established on August 1st, 1951. The school is an orphanage back then founded by Mr. Yasmireja. At present, the institution has grown into a conducive school for learning with 474 students.
Below is the Vision and Mission of the school:
1.2 Academic Support System
An Islamic organization governs a private school named SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto. It is a conducive school for learning since it has facilities such as 23 classrooms, a library, a language lab room, a science laboratory room, a computer room, a prayer room, a staff room, a headmaster's room, a counseling room, an administration room, a canteen, and a school clinic. There is also a covered court where I have seen students play sports like futsal and other activities.
1.3 Teaching System
It's a junior high school type of institution that consists of grades 7 to 9. Grades 7 have six sections and grade 8 have five sections. Each with three regular classes, three intensive lessons, and one ICT class. While, grade 9 has seven sections, each with three regular classes, two intensive classes, and two ICT classes. Since then, SMP MUHAMMADIYAH 1 PURWOKERTO has been developing with the assistance of 1 headmaster, 30 teachers, 4 administrative staff members, 2 librarians, 1 security officer, 4 cleaning staff, and a canteen officer.
Every morning, the teaching and non teaching staff goes early to school because they are having a meeting before their classes starts. They talk about their roles and responsibilities to the school and also to the students. Aside from that, its purpose is to report the progress or problem they encounter inside the school so that they could gather advices and suggestions to cope or resolve it. Their head master is always checking if all of the school's personnel is in good shape.
1.4 Materials and other Learning Resources
SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto have their own textbooks provided for each student. Also there is a projector and speakers inside each classrooms which is being used for learning purposes such as viewing videos, images and even lessons prepared by the teacher.
1.5 Measurement and Evaluation System
Teachers regularly evaluate students performance and learning through everyday interaction and the use of some worksheets, or sometimes in the form of oral recitation, performance-based activities, and written quizzes. There is also a quarterly examination that is done before every quarter ends to assess how much the students have learned during the entire quarter.
1.6 Curriculum
The curriculum at the school is designed and organized to help pupils grow in a variety of learning activities. They formulated their latest curriculum Merdeka which means freedom. The teachers are free to choose what topics or lessons should be taught, to students. They are given the flexibility to use any learning materials for the quality of learning of their students. The is no much differences between their old curriculum predecessor curriculum and the latest one. Basically, it's the same in its implementation. However, this new curriculum emphasizes essential content, offers greater flexibility, nurtures character development, and enhances students' competencies.
1.7 Teaching Plan
For teaching plan, I asked my cooperating teacher what format does she use for me to know what to follow in making my own but she told me to utilize the format from my university. Then, as I saw her lesson plan, I noticed that we have quite the same format. It’s just that, the medium of instruction for science subject is in their language which is Bahasa.
