Who is Julie Delfs?

Originally from New York, my journey in art resembles a snowball effect, growing and gaining momentum. A friend introduced me to resin and I continued creating and eventually displayed in local galleries. I wanted to share my love of resin and began offering classes which are as much fun for me as it is for my students. We create, we laugh, we build relationships and art. It is a beautiful thing. The message is... just put something or some part of yourself out there and see what happens. 90% of anything is showing up! Also when you don't have much... you don't have much to lose... so go for it! Jump in and try something new.

I love the feeling when someone claims to have no artistic ability and then they take my class and feel like an artist. They see themselves as creative for the first time in a long time! Funny thing is, the very first thing we ever learn is to be creative... over time we tend to forget. No matter what we do we are creating something essentially. Creativity is inside all of us. We just may need to slow down a bit to find our inner artist.

As humans we learn to be creative when we learn to talk and walk and communicate. Being creative and using our own innate imagination is a fundamental part of life. Rediscovering this can be healing.

Before the snowball of my art career, I was in floral and garden design as well as music for 25 years. I've created flowers for every occasion and have performed in many musical acts. Fresh flowers and music are still a passion of mine. I currently play in a 5 piece all-girl band called The Wildflowers which features my daughter on guitar. I'm also in a Duo called Soul Salad. I love all forms of creativity and I love to inspire it in others. Whether it's music, painting, welding, floral design, cooking, pottery, crafting, baking, costuming or set designs .... you name it... If there's an opportunity for me to get creative...I'm in...

How do you find inspiration for your artwork?

Finding inspiration for my artwork is a natural process for me. I have learned from many individuals that art can be found everywhere and in everything. I embrace the present moment, carefully observing and absorbing my surroundings. It's like capturing a mental photograph and utilizing my inherent skills to bring my artistic vision to fruition. At times, inspiration arises from a client's concept, while other times, I am faced with a blank canvas. Regardless, I internalize the idea, interpret it, and then allow myself to truly 'feel it' in my soul. It's challenging to put into words, as it holds an almost spiritual essence.

Do you create custom artwork?

Creating one-of-a-kind custom pieces is something I absolutely adore! It's safe to say they are my favorite type of projects, whether they are for residential or commercial purposes. I thoroughly enjoy the process of collaborating with clients and transforming their ideas into tangible works of art. What's even more exciting is that my customers extend beyond the local community. Visitors to the island may come across my artwork displayed in a friend's home, local business or discover my work through social media, and they develop a genuine admiration for the artistry and passion showcased at Julie Delfs Gallery. It is a true honor and privilege to have my artwork adorning walls not only across the United States but also right here in Florida. List some of the local custom work you have done, the pirates, dining tables, countertops, surf boards, etc ( **** à this doesn’t really fit here) The resin I use in wall art is actually meant for countertops, I've done lots of those too!
