Each of the branches of the boy scouts have their leadership trainings. the Sea Scouts have ILSS, venture crews have ILSC and troops have ILST. They are very similar trainings but as the units themselves are different, the trainings are somewhat different as well.
This course was introduced in the fall of 2012 to replace Crew Officers Orientation and the Venturing Leadership Skills Course. The course is specific to Sea Scouts and shares a common lexicon with Boy Scout training and aligns with the new Troop Leadership Training (TLT). The goals of ILSS are to give youth a clearer picture of how their position fits in the ship, help youth understand how they make a difference, and give youth additional tools and ideas for their role as leader.

Scouting America is committed to creating safe environments for Scouts and leaders. Child abuse is an uncomfortable topic but an important one for us to cover to ensure the safety and well-being of our Scouts. Scouting America has partnered with subject-matter experts from the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center Foundation to present the Personal Safety Awareness Series. The Personal Safety Awareness Series main goal is to educate teens about what to do if they experience abusive behavior, educate them about safe and unsafe touches, and encourage them to go to a parent or another trusted adult for help.

The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership. Contact your local council for the nearest course offering.
