Mr Matt Mills, SAIS Superintendent
Kia Ora Koutou!
It is with absolutely zero restraint that I welcome all participating schools and their Boys and Girls teams to SAIS (UWCD) in Singapore for this year's SEASAC Tennis Division 2 Tournament!
As a passionate, and some might say slightly obsessed, Kiwi sports fan, I have a genuine love for international events—and tennis, well, it’s my favourite! It’s that time of year where the sporting globe turns its attention to the Grand Slam action, and right now, my apartment in Melbourne (yes, the one I definitely bought just to service the possibility of attending the Australian Open finals year on year—no biggie!) is probably sitting empty. Why? Because I'm right here with all of you!
While I’m keeping one eye on the scores from Rod Laver Arena—and quietly cheering for the possibility of our fabulous Kiwi doubles players, like Erin Routliffe or Michael Venus, making a big semi-final or even a final appearance—I promise my full focus is right here on our future stars!
This tournament is where the true excitement is. Tennis is an incredible game, showcasing explosive power, pinpoint precision, unyielding mental fortitude, and the very best of sportsmanship. What a brilliant sport!
We are thrilled for SAIS to welcome student-athletes from across the region to compete in a weekend that celebrates athleticism, grit, and fair play. Let us cheer on our players with massive enthusiasm and respectful sportsmanship. May this event inspire us all to strive for excellence in everything we do—whether you're aiming for a Div 2 trophy or just trying to perfect your top-spin serve!
A massive thank you to the dedicated coaches, teachers, support staff, and parents for nurturing the passion and commitment of our young athletes.
To all our participants, have a great time, enjoy this fantastic opportunity, and I look forward to being able to join you for at least part of the action.
Best of luck everyone, and may the spirit of tennis unite us all!
