This was an old dirt bike I got from my uncle Scott. It would still kind-of run, but not well and many things were worn out or broken.
The shift lever was loose and the rubber section was missing. The pin remaining was also well worn. The pins for the pegs and the holes they went into were really worn out and they were floppy.
In the second picture you can see how I used the metal lathe to make new larger diameter pivots for the pegs, which restored them to the correct angle so your feet didn't slide off.
In the third picture you can see the new bolt pivot, new torsion spring and turned plastic shift lever tip that I machined on the lathe.
The engine was flopping around a bit, and it wasn't hard to see why. One of the main engine mounting points on the frame was cracked. I was able to cover the engine with a welding blanket and weld the cracked tab.
Did I mention things were worn out? The pivot for the kick start arm was also so worn it was flopping around and would slap the engine. It was also angled, so your foot could slide off when trying to start it. I again turned a new larger diameter pin, and drilled out the old holes to fit the new pin. I also replaced the bolt which was half stripped. It worked much better after this repair.
