Space Debris

This paper and accompanying presentation were completed in the spring of 2025 for EM-52 Technical and managerial communication. This class aimed to teach methods for effective communication in managerial and technical settings. As a result, we analyzed case studies including the Challenger disaster, Citicorp Center situation, and Hyatt Regency disaster, and the roles that communication, or the lack thereof, played in the situations.

Our main assignment was to choose a particular topic of interest to us and write a paper about it, emphasizing accessibility to various knowledge and skill levels. At the end of the semester, we presented our work in a 10-minute presentation to the rest of the class.

The topic that I landed on was the growing issue of space debris in Earth’s orbit. I focused on long-term solutions, including debris removal and policies to expand access to orbit. This topic is of great interest to me because of my longstanding interest in the space industry. As the industry continues to grow, the issue of space debris will likely worsen, so it is essential that we explore potential solutions before the situation escalates.
