SEALS 35 - Call for Papers

The Southeast Asian Linguistics Society (SEALS) invites scholars to submit abstracts for the 35th Annual Meeting of the Southeast Asian Linguistics Society (SEALS 35), to be held at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, on 3 – 5 June, 2026. The conference will be in the form of a hybrid event, and we strongly encourage participants to join in person.

NTU is one of Asia's most prestigious universities, renowned for its cutting-edge research, state-of-the-art facilities, and vibrant academic community. It has consistently ranked among the top universities globally and offers a dynamic environment for linguistic research, particularly in the fields of Southeast Asian languages and linguistics. Our rich multicultural setting and its diverse student body make it an ideal location for discussions on various linguistics topics.

SEALS 35 welcomes contributions addressing linguistic issues related to languages spoken in Southeast Asia, particularly those from the following language families: Austronesian, Austroasiatic, Kra-Dai/Tai-Kadai, Hmong-Mien/Miao-Yao, and Sino-Tibetan. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

· Phonetics and phonology

· Morphosyntax

· Semantics and pragmatics

· Historical-comparative studies

· Language endangerment, documentation and revitalization

· Genetic and areal relationships

· Discourse analysis

· Sociolinguistic studies

· Psycholinguistics

We invite submissions for:

i. oral presentations of 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes for discussion

ii. poster presentations.

Abstracts must be written in English and submitted in PDF format. Please adhere to the maximum of 1 single-authored submission per author, with no limit on the number of co-authored abstracts.

i. Title: Clear and informative.

ii. Length: Abstracts must be no longer than one A4 page (min. 11pt font), with an additional page for examples, tables, and references.

iii. Anonymity: Abstracts must be fully anonymous. Authors' names, affiliations, or pictures should not be indicated anywhere in the document.

· List of authors and affiliations

· 3-5 keywords

· Preferred presentation medium (oral/poster/either)

· Preferred method of attendance (in-person/hybrid/to be determined)

Abstracts will be reviewed by the SEALS Executive Committee and selected based on merit.

Notifications of acceptance will be conveyed by 1 March 2026.
