MMSU – My Second Home in the Philippines

Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) is a top-tier public university in Batac City, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, established in 1976. Renowned for excellence in agriculture, science, and technology, it is a Level 4 university that ranks well in UN Sustainable Development Goals. It operates multiple campuses focusing on instruction, research, and community development. 

Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) is one of the prominent universities in the northern Philippines. Its main campus is in Batac City, while some specialized colleges, like the College of Teacher Education (CTE), are located in Laoag City. MMSU has a strong focus on education, agriculture, engineering, and the arts, making it a hub for students from all over the region.

The campus in Laoag City, where I was assigned, is dedicated to preparing future educators. It offers a vibrant environment with dedicated lecturers, interactive classrooms, and a supportive community for students and visiting teachers alike. Even though the university has multiple campuses, the values of MMSU warmth, inclusivity, and focus on learning are evident everywhere.

While it’s a well-established institution academically, MMSU is also a place full of cultural experiences. Walking through its corridors, participating in classes, and interacting with both students and faculty gave me a sense of how education shapes the local community.

In short, MMSU is more than just a university. It’s a place where students grow, educators share knowledge, and visitors like me can experience a unique blend of learning, culture, and Filipino hospitality.
