Area of Focus : Southern Africa
South Africa's surface area covers 1 219 602 km. South Africa has three cities that serve as capitals: Pretoria (executive), Cape Town (legislative), and Bloemfontein (judicial), also Johannesburg is the largest urban area in the country (Bundy, 2022). East London and Port Elizabeth are along the southern coast and are important commercial, industrial, and cultural centers (Bundy, 2022). "Apartheid geography was so finely designed that even the black area is sub-divided between a so-called colored township – common South African parlance for people of mixed racial heritage – and black Africans. Such apartheid geography was orchestrated by Hendrik Verwoerd, the prime minister until 1966. It remains a reality almost everywhere" (McKaiser, 2013). The rich of Johannesburg still live in the northern suburbs for reasons like the food at some restaurants are Michelin-star rated and houses are not only beautiful but high priced . These areas remain largely white. The workers are in Soweto and Alexandra and other poor, crime-plagued cities because that's some of the only places they can afford.
