Chapter 8 of the city ordinances adopted 2003 IFC with an amendment allowing recreational fires without permits. A burn ban is in effect since 2011 prohibiting recreational, non-cooking, fires when the SD Grasslands Fire Danger is Very High (Orange) or Extreme (Red). Safety guidance, or recommended best practices, for residential burning can be found here.
