Acquired Brain Injury

Active Support

Active Support underpins all areas of health and social care. This course allows staff to use the correct level of support, to engage individuals in day-to-day activities, supporting in a person-centred way.
Attachment Theory
Course Length. 2-3 Hours
This course provides an introduction to the fundamental principles of attachment theory. Explores how the dynamics of early relationships influence how children interact in later life.
Autism Awareness
Course Length. 6 Hours
This course helps staff to understand ASD and how they are diagnosed. The course looks at how people with the condition can be supported effectively, considering communication and behaviours.
Breakaway Skills
Course Length. Up to 2 Days
This course is designed to teach participants how to identify steps leading up to a possible conflict and how to diffuse the situation.
Care Planning
Course Length. 2-3 Hours
This course assists staff to build and/or refine their care planning. The course offers practical tools and model documents, policies and recording systems that can be adapted to your own care setting.
Co-production
Course Length. 2-3 Hours
SD Training would like to see co-production happening as often as possible and ideally be embedded in the culture of services. It is helpful for everyone to know how to use Co-production.
Communication
Course Length. 2-3 Hours
Finding communication methods that are suitable for individuals is an essential first step in providing care and support that is tailored to the person.
Contraband Search
Course Length. 2-3 Hours
Search training enables staff to carry out systematic searches for illegal or prohibited items in response to a threat or as a part of everyday security operations. Training can be tailored to meet companies' specific requirements.
CQC – New Inspection Standards
Course Length. 6 Hours
This course is designed to ensure that attendees have a fundamental and detailed understanding of the new CQC assessment framework.
Dementia Awareness
Course Length. 2-3 Hours
This course gives learners an understanding of many conditions that fall under the dementia umbrella, along with practical examples of how to help create a dementia-friendly environment and provide person-centred support.

First Aid for Mental Health
Course Length. 2 Days
This qualification equips learners with the knowledge and skills to recognise potential mental health concerns, initiate conversations, and offer support before professional help.
Learning Disability Awareness
Course Length. 2-3 Hours
The Health and Care Act 2022 introduces a requirement for all staff supporting individuals with Learning Disabilities to have relevant training. This course is designed to meet these requirements.
Mental Capacity Act and DoLS
Course Length. 2-3 Hours
This course is designed to give staff an understanding of their responsibilities and how to put them into practice in the workplace regarding the legal safeguards in the Mental Capacity Act.
Mental Health Awareness
Course Length. 2-3 Hours
This training gives participants an insight into mental health including what mental health is, various conditions and the legislation that directly affects mental health treatment and care.
Neurodiversity
Course Length. 6 Hours
Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways. This course looks at Neurodiversity with an overview of different common conditions.
Person-Centred Care & Planning
Course Length. 2-3 Hours
This course assists staff to ensure the care they provide is person-centred regardless of the person's diagnosis. The course offers practical tools and model documents.
Positive Behaviour Support
Course Length. 6 Hours
PBS is the best way of supporting people who are at risk of displaying behaviour which challenges services. It’s important that staff have the right skills and knowledge to support anyone who may challenge services.
Preparation for Independence
Course Length. 2-3 Hours
This course will help staff to support individuals develop independence skills. You will cover home management skills, creativity, enterprise and also develop a range of skills for greater independence.
Self-Harm, Suicide
& Ligature
Course Length. 3-4 Hours
Having ligature training can and does save lives. However, at SD Training, we believe prevention is more important therefore we look at not just how to use equipment but ways in which to prevent self-harm.
Substance Misuse
Course Length. 2-3 Hours
The session looks at the legalities and some of the psychology of substance misuse. It also looks at the more practical elements including what some common street drugs look like, and what can be used to make drug paraphernalia.
Therapeutic Observations
Course Length. 2-3 Hours
Therapeutic Observations are used within hospital and residential settings where service users will be observed on a regular basis. This course will allow staff to understand the importance of observations.
