Catechetical Certification

The Catechetical Certification process in the Diocese of San Diego is one that ensures the readiness and formation of catechists and Catholic school religion teachers through the Basic Catechetical Formation Certification course.

The Office for Evangelical and Catechetical Ministry (OECM) and the University of San Diego, in partnership with the Office for Schools, provide support to teachers and catechists in their spiritual formation and certification process. There are two options for earning your Basic Catechetical Formation Certificate: USD's Hybrid Program or the Diocesan Institute. Please click on links below to learn more.

Teachers must earn their Basic Catechetical Formation Certification within two years of employment.
