Evolution: Dinosaurs, Fossils, Leave No Trace and a guest appearance by the rare and endangered OHP!
After being greeted by some prehistoric creatures thanks to a member of our youth environment team, we had a chance to get to know each other in our patrol, get to know about our patrol name (all named after Australian Megafauna) and got started on creating the best patrol poster possible. Who knew what a creative bunch we were. There is nothing that this lot can't do with dried pasta!
Thanks to Meagan we also had our own dig we worked on throughout the weekend to uncover bones and other clues.
We kicked off Saturday with an Acknowledgement to Country in the chapel and then got busy with sessions which ranged from tech support to Terrain to Lightweight Cooking.
Ron getting into the camp theme using an overhead projector. Love it!
Probably best that this one is never discussed!
Saturday night we sat down to a themed dinner and many campers came dressed for the occasion. No photos of all the costumes however as we were in a food coma. Again the diverse range of leader skills were displayed with some expert level colouring in, some questionable dance and singing skills displayed during campfire and we quickly learnt why ball games should be outside only, even if it is a review ball. The evening ended with the traditional Game of Life which mostly ran smoothly until a certain wolf decided to vacate her seat!
A coffee van seemed successful in getting us out of bed on Sunday morning.
Sessions on Sunday involved taking a trip to Venus, gaining some trailer skills and an amazing chat with Uncle Ron and Nuri around practical ways we can acknowledge and respect our First Nations people in scouting. After lunch we learnt some ways to support youth members to lead which some how involved another space themed adventure. I think the theme for a future camp is selecting itself.
We finished the weekend with a sticker review and based on the feedback the camp won't be a one off.
If you have photos from the weekend that you would like to share, please email environment@sctscouts.org.au and we can provide you with a link to a shared folder to upload them into.
