SCS Volunteer Program
The Swasey School Volunteer Program has been established to help the process of formal education for the children of our community. We are extremely proud of our volunteers and their excellent record of community service. Volunteers include students, parents and other community members. The students of Swasey grow up seeing their parents and others taking an active interest in their education. For the volunteer, there is personal satisfaction that goes with helping children grow and achieve.
The Swasey School Volunteer Program is proud to have earned the Blue Ribbon Award for the 2017-2018 school year. This is the 37th consecutive year that Swasey has been recognized. One component of this award represents the thousands of hours of quality time that parents and community members give to the many varied activities at Swasey Central School.
Swasey Volunteers help in many areas of school life. They strengthen school and community relations by helping to stimulate community interest, concern and support for the education process through direct participation within and outside the school. The volunteers assist, support and encourage students, teachers and staff in many ways that may include:
The Swasey Volunteer Coordinator coordinates the Volunteer Program. They provide recruitment, orientation, training, guidance and maintenance of records. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator for more information or to sign up to volunteer at Swasey School. A list of members can be found under Board Members.
How can I get involved?
Whether you’d like to help a little or a lot, the PFG NEEDS YOU! Its fun, it’s free, it’s informative, and you can develop some great friendships with other parents- not to mention it’s an awesome investment in our children and their education! Here are just some of the ways that you can get involved:
Volunteer - Whether you’d like to really get involved and help several times throughout the year, or even if you just want to help once or twice, there is a spot for you! At various times throughout the year- especially during our fundraiser events- we need volunteers to help with things like distributing items to the classrooms, helping with a Community Event etc. These are generally short periods ranging anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple hours, and any time that you can contribute is GREATLY appreciated. The more hands we have helping, the less time for everyone. This is a great way for parents or even grandparents to get involved! Consider becoming a volunteer today!
Grade Liaison - Grade liaisons are responsible for maintaining open dialog with teachers to help organize and implement the volunteer needs for their classrooms. There will be one grade liaison per teacher, PE, Art, and Music. This is a great way to get involved in the volunteer program!
Fundraiser - Fundraising is an extremely important part of the PFG. Our Fall and Spring fundraiser events generate the majority of the funds raised by the PFG. This money helps us to reach our goal of providing support for our children’s school and helping them to have the absolute best educational experience possible. Your support of our fundraiser efforts is one of the greatest ways to get involved! Some parents have expressed a desire to simply make a donation to the PFG in lieu of having their children participate in sales events. These donations are always welcome!!
Board Member - Do you want to dive in full-time and really make a difference? Consider becoming a PFG Board Member for the upcoming school year.
Get involved with the PFG today! Remember, together we can make a difference!
How do I join?
Simple. Come to a meeting! If you have a child at SCS, you are a member of the PFG!! The PFG meets the third Tuesday of every month. Meetings begin at 6:30pm in the Swasey School Library.
