Advocacy & Meetings: Members meet directly with state legislators and staff to discuss core issues impacting retired public school personnel.
Recognition: Attendees are traditionally welcomed and honored with official resolutions or proclamations in both the Texas House and Senate galleries.
Fellowship & Food: Events typically feature a large gathering on the Capitol East Lawn, complimentary boxed lunches, and an ice cream social.
The Dress Code: Participants are strongly encouraged to wear red to visibly show unity and support for public education retirees.
What to Expect & How to Prepare
Registration: TRTA will open formal online event registration through the TRTA Member Portal closer to the 2027 date to secure accurate headcounts for food and materials.
Appointments: Members are encouraged to contact their local state representatives and senators in advance to schedule morning or afternoon office visits.
Updates: Check the TRTA Official Website or follow the TRTA Facebook Page for exact schedule breakdowns, parking tips, and lodging recommendations as March 2027 approaches.

1. Arriving by Charter Bus?

2. Arriving in a Personal Vehicle?
Paid Parking:
Available at the Capitol Visitors Parking Garage (1201 San Jacinto Blvd) – just one block from the East Lawn!
Free for the first two hours, $1 per additional half hour, with a maximum daily charge of $12. View the parking rates chart here.
Complimentary Parking & Shuttle Service (Limited Availability):
TRTA has reserved a limited number of free parking spots with shuttle service to the event on a first-come, first-served basis.
To secure your spot, you must send an email to Ashley Jaramillo at ashley@trta.org.
A parking pass will be sent to you and must be printed and displayed on your windshield.
