About Scrittorio

Hello, there! 👋 My name is Hyba, and I'm a Muslim writer, podcaster, and the founder & editor-in-chief of Scrittorio. The idea for Scrittorio is one that has been rattling around in my mind for a while now. I decided to launch this digital magazine for two reasons: the first was that I wanted to have the experience of managing my own magazine, and the second was that I wanted to give back to the online writing community.

You see, when I started Scrittorio, I kind of lived in the middle of nowhere. And, creatively speaking, I still do. I don't have any book clubs or writing groups that I can join, and finding an in-person, live writing community is almost impossible where I live (almost because I'm still holding out hope). Over the past seven or so years, the online writing community has been an enriching pool of great advice, discussion, lessons learned, and motivation. I want to give back to you in whatever way I can - and what better way than a digital magazine jam-packed with articles, writing advice, author interviews, and more?

Now, I'm thrilled to finally be able to officially launch Scrittorio, a digital magazine that focuses on the actual business of fiction writing, whether that’s skills and technical competencies, writing approaches and processes, writing as a career, and more. Each issue will feature an array of intriguing articles that take you deeper into the writer's world. It's 100% free to read, and free to submit to. My aim is to keep it that way - forever.

This is my first time trying to put together a project quite as large as Scrittorio, and I hope that you will have patience and understanding as I go through what will undoubtedly be a significant learning curve.

At the moment, Scrittorio is a one-woman show. I do all of the writing, the design and layout, the interviewing, the editing, and the social media/website management. The magazine isn't generating any money at all, and won't be for the foreseeable future. It's a volunteer effort, and I'm enjoying every moment of it.

As an annual magazine, new issues of Scrittorio will be be published at the end of each season, made available each December.

All issues will be available as PDFs on this website. Free to download, free to read.

What to Submit?

December 31, 2023 - UPDATE: Scrittiorio submissions are currently CLOSED.

Any changes to the above will be communicated here on the website and on the Scrittorio tumblr blog.
