Scripps Ranch Girl Scouts Powder Puff Derby
2024 Event Information:
Overview
This event has been a Scripps Ranch Girl Scouts tradition for many years and has over 150 participants each year.
The event is designed for scouts and parents to work together to design & build a pinewood derby car and learn basic woodworking skills along the way.
Each participant will receive a car kit (wood block & wheels) with instructions and event details.
Workshops are hosted to provide tools and guidance *no tools or experience required*
The fee is only $15 and each girl scout is awarded a patch and trophies are awarded for speed and various design categories.

registration will open in December and ends January 31st, 2024
Girls Scout Racers can register individually, race times will be based on troop level (new this year)
race #1 - 1pm - Daisies & Brownies
race #2 - 2pm - Juniors, Cadettes & Seniors
Friends & Family Racers can register for the 12pm race ONLY (parents, siblings & friends are welcome)
Car Kits & Payments
payments should be made by troop and can be made via Venmo (@Ben-ODay) or via checks to "Scripps Ranch Service Unit"
please make payment for the total amount ($15 per participant)...please include your troop # with any payments
car kits should be picked up by 1 person in each troop and available for pickup starting February 12th (10272 Aviary Dr. 92131)
you can build your car on your own, get together as a troop or attend the derby workshop if you need any help
if you do plan to attend, please sign up for a time slot either individually or as a troop using this sheet, this helps to spread everyone
Car Check-in (mandatory for all racers)
car inspection is required to make sure rules are followed and that each car will make it down the track
please bring your car fully assembled in a small box (cookie box size preferably) as we have a lot of cars to store and bring to the event on race day
if you need help with wheels or weight, there will be workshop volunteers available to assist during the checkin
Checkin for Race #1 - Tuesday March 12th - 5-7pm
Checkin for Race #2 - Wed March 13th - 5-7pm

if you can't make it to one of these check-in times
leave your car in a box on the porch (10272 Aviary Dr) and we will inspect and contact you if needed, please include the car # & car name as well

donate your old trophies
we will be reusing old trophies as much as possible to reduce waste and keep costs down
if you have any Powder Puff Derby trophies that are no longer needed, drop them off at 10272 Aviary Dr.
