The Awareness Committee's Mission:
The awareness committee of the SCRC compiles and shares important information and resources to build up strength and resiliency in the community. The committee works to be a bridge to community connections, to enhance communication in the SD 308 community, and to spotlight community assets.
The Awareness Committee's Goals:
Enhance communication between all parties in the SD308 community
Sharing relevant information to our community in light of current topics, events, or other timely matters
Support the mission of the SCRC and make it accessible to all key players in our community. Highlight needs and desires from all groups with a special focus on minority groups and low-income families, families with individuals living with a disability, to show our commitment to all perspectives of ongoing struggles, problems, etc.
Have a platform for parents/families to vent/release/have their voice be heard
Sharing psycho-education tools to families
The Awareness Committee's Accomplishments:
Increased Student Engagement
We got students involved as volunteers for Food Pantry events
BIONIC from OHS helped create resilience-based videos, programs, merchandise, and helped us work on other initiatives
The plans & visions for SCRC's Student Advisory Committee were created
We are launching Social Justice Showcases with teachers from Oswego East to allow K-12 students in the district to engage in difficult conversations in a meaningful and impactful way
Parent Engagement
Increased resource and event sharing to reach families/caregivers' needs through social media
Hosted 3 virtual Parent Coffee events presented by several local experts-see more in the graphic below
Compiled relevant information and guidelines related to COVID-19 and shared with the community
Utilized social media to create an uplifting, empathetic, and safe space for parents and other partners in the community
Amplified Voices and Perspectives
We launched an event in collaboration with School District 308 and the DEI Department of SD308 to host a Human Library event, in which conversations surrounding diversity and inclusion were at the forefront of the experience.
Shared resources available in Spanish
Utilized our social media pages to share events & resources in Oswego, Montgomery, Aurora, Yorkville, Plainfield, & Naperville as we know that our students from our district live in different areas of these cities/towns.
Created a space of understanding for families that made all different decisions and adaptions necessary during COVID-19 to demonstrate our belief in our community's ability to be resilient.
