Sun City Oro Valley 40th Anniversary Celebration
Sun City Oro Valley is thrilled to announce the beginning of plans for our 40th Anniversary! Over the past forty years, our active adult community has grown into a vibrant and welcoming place to call home. As we approach this significant milestone, we invite all residents to participate in the celebration and help make it truly memorable.
What to Expect
Planning for the anniversary is underway, and your involvement will be vital in making the festivities meaningful for everyone. The celebration will begin on January 2, 2027 and conclude on February 13, 2027. Here are the activities and opportunities currently being considered:
1. Special Events & Entertainment (details here) - Residents can look forward to a wide range of events, including entertainment, crafts, social gatherings, and club-sponsored activities. While many are free for residents, some will have associated costs:
The first day will feature a parade along the main streets of Sun City Oro Valley, followed by a free barbecue picnic catered by The Views Restaurant plus various other activities to kick off the festivities. We are hoping to add a fireworks display in the evening.
During the six week celebration period, numerous opportunities to participate in games, entertainment, club activities and even tea parties may be offered!
The celebration will culminate on February 13, 2027, with a brunch, a formal Gala reception, dining with food stations, the culmination of an online auction and perhaps even a 50/50 raffle! We’re also exploring the possibility of an acrobatic exhibit to provide a spectacular ending to the celebration.

3. Community Stories
A special Tipster article is scheduled for publication in early January 2027, showcasing the founding days of Sun City Oro Valley and chronicling our community’s exciting growth and development.
To help support these events, we will be seeking contributions from local business donors and sponsors. Find details here. We even have a form for memorial donations for residents who want to contribute (here).
Donor recognition will be prominently featured on our website (here) and other media outlets.
Information on contributing or assisting in donor outreach will be available soon.
Exclusive 40th Anniversary merchandise will be offered, along with a commemorative book that includes stories, interviews with community pioneers, and historic photographs.
A special book that will be available later in 2026 has been written about the past 40 years here in Sun City by Jim Williams.
