Scott L. Graves Jr., PhD

I am a licensed psychologist in the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania and the Director of the Positive Youth Development Lab (PYDL). I am interested in the protective factors that contribute to the academic and social success of African American children. I focus on parent involvement, teacher-child relationships, racial socialization, and school quality.

My current research is focused on:

1. Developing school and community interventions that focus on children’s strengths. This includes research to increase the number of ethnically diverse faculty and service providers.

2. Analyzing developmental and ecological contexts (i.e., family, schools, and peers) of academically successful children through the use of nationally representative datasets (e.g. ECLS-K and Add Health)
